How the Heart Can Correct the Brain and Access a Deeper Level of Awareness
For centuries people have said, “listen to your heart.” Modern neuroscience is beginning to show that this may be far more than poetic language.
New research reveals that the heart is not just a mechanical pump. It is an information-processing organ that constantly communicates with the brain and can influence how we perceive reality, make decisions, and detect errors in our thinking.
In other words, the heart can sometimes know when the brain is wrong.
The Heart Can Detect When the Brain Makes a Mistake
A fascinating new study published in Biological Psychology explored how the heart responds when the brain makes perceptual errors. Researchers found that changes in heart rhythm occur when the brain incorrectly interprets information, even before conscious awareness of the mistake occurs.
In these experiments, participants were given visual tasks that sometimes produced perceptual illusions. When the brain misinterpreted what it saw, the heart responded with measurable changes in heart rate patterns. The remarkable finding was this: The heart’s response reflected whether the perception was correct or incorrect. In essence, the heart appeared to signal that the brain’s interpretation of reality was wrong.
This suggests the heart is not merely reacting to the brain — it is participating in the evaluation of information.
The Heart Sends Signals That Shape Perception and Decision-Making
Other modern research has shown that signals coming from the heart influence how the brain processes information. Studies on interoception — the sensing of internal bodily signals — demonstrate that the rhythm of the heartbeat can shape perception, emotional interpretation, and decision-making.
When the brain receives signals from the heart, it uses that information to guide behavior, particularly in uncertain situations. These signals act as internal guidance markers that influence how the brain evaluates risk, confidence, and meaning. In many cases, the heart’s signals help the brain decide whether something is safe, threatening, or important.
The Brain Actually Listens to the Heart
Research in neuroscience has now identified specialized neural pathways that allow cardiac signals to influence brain networks responsible for cognition and awareness. Signals from the heart travel through the vagus nerve and other neural pathways and are processed in brain regions such as the insula, which integrates internal body signals with emotional and cognitive awareness. Studies show that heartbeat-related signals in the brain predict perception, attention, and decision-making accuracy.
In other words:  The brain does not operate alone. It constantly integrates information coming from the heart.
Why the Heart May See the Bigger Picture
The brain primarily processes information from the five external senses:
  • Sight
  • Sound
  • Touch
  • Taste
  • Smell
But the heart continuously provides internal physiological information that the brain cannot obtain through the external senses. These signals include information about:
  • physiological safety or danger
  • emotional states
  • bodily stress levels
  • internal coherence or conflict
Because the heart integrates signals from across the entire body and autonomic nervous system, it may provide a broader informational context than the brain alone can access.
This may be why people often experience powerful intuitive feelings such as:
  • “Something doesn’t feel right.”
  • “This decision just feels correct.”
  • “My heart tells me to go this way.”
These experiences may reflect real physiological communication from the heart to the brain.
The Heart as a Gateway to Higher Awareness
When the heart and brain operate in harmony, research shows the body enters a state called physiological coherence. In this state:
  • heart rhythms become ordered and stable
  • brain waves synchronize more efficiently
  • emotional clarity improves
  • decision making becomes faster and more accurate
Many scientists now believe that the heart may function as a central hub connecting physiological signals, emotional awareness, and higher levels of perception. The heart may therefore act as a gateway through which deeper forms of awareness influence brain function.
Dr. Nemec’s Review
The study in Biological Psychology shows this one very important thing: The heart knows when you’re wrong. Or to look at it in an even bigger picture: the heart has access to a greater amount of information then the five-sense-driven brain does.
If we look at them as the fields that they generate, the heart generates a much greater field than the brain does:
  • Magnetic Field Strength: The heart’s magnetic field is approximately 100 times stronger than that of the brain.
  • Electrical Field Strength: The electrical amplitude of the heart, as measured by an ECG, is roughly 60 times greater than the brain waves recorded by an EEG.
  • Detection Range: The heart’s electromagnetic field is measurable several feet from the body, whereas the brain’s signals are much more localized and fade quickly.
The heart’s field acts as a central rhythmic synchronizer for the body, and research suggests it can even be detected between individuals when they are in close proximity. So if you look at the heart like it was an antenna, taking in information from greater sources of information, it’s obvious to see the heart field is so much greater. It makes common sense to deduct that the heart therefore could provide information to the brain that the brain itself could not access.
What if the heart is the portal to a higher consciousness, a greater awareness? What if the heart is the door to your purist and truest identity? Then it just makes sense that we would learn to listen to the heart instead of always only listening to a five-sense-driven pre-programmed brain automatically predicting a future from past programming.
Modern science is beginning to confirm something that the wisdom of traditions have said for thousands of years. The heart is an intelligent communication center that constantly exchanges information with the brain.
Research now shows:
  • The heart can signal when the brain’s perception is wrong.
  • Heartbeat signals shape perception and decision making.
  • Brain networks actively listen to information coming from the heart.
When the brain and heart are aligned, perception becomes clearer, decisions improve, and consciousness becomes more integrated. Perhaps that is why the ancient advice still holds true today: The heart truly does know best.
Food for the heart and brain
Over the years patients and members have asked, “what’s the best nutrients for my heart and for my brain? What supplements would you recommend?”
At Revolution New Medicine we recommend to all of our members these key nutrients for heart and brain health. For the heart, our most important recommendations are these:
This is the complete vitamin / mineral mix for cellular function. It also has the perfect ratio of calcium and magnesium, which is critical for heart function.
This was formulated in conjunction with Essential Food 1 to give the remaining targeted nutrients that were critical for three major systems in the body: the heart, the brain and the gut.
The heart and the brain use a tremendous amount of ATP energy, and the most important nutrient that needs to be present in the production of ATP energy through the Krebs citric acid cycle, and the electron transport chain is CoQ10 if you’re deficient in CoQ10, your deficient in ATP energy production.
For the brain our most important recommendations are these:
These are the base amino acids that build all the neurotransmitters for brain function.
These are the essential fatty acids for the brain which also aid in keeping the brain in an anti-inflammatory state. This product is unique because it’s stabilized in powdered form to increase its potency and stability.
These are the essential phospholipids that make up the majority of the brain tissue.
