Why are you here? Do you ever ask yourself that question? If you don’t think that this world or the entire universe has any purpose, then this question is meaningless to you. If you think that we came about by a million of one-in-a-million chance events which all lined up perfectly to cause us to exist, then the question is meaningless. But if you see this world to have come about intentionally, then everything has purpose. That includes you.

If the world has purpose, then there are no accidents. If there were, then chance would be in control and we would be back to the thought that the universe is random. You can’t have the creator of the universe subject to making mistakes, or you wouldn’t have a creator powerful enough to create us. You are not an accident.

There will never be another you. Each of us is unique. Even identical twins have unique aspects. Each of us is a unique jewel, not matched by any other. You are a work of art which can never be duplicated. You are special.

We all have potential. Born with unique traits and abilities, we can learn skills and develop a vocation, a family, a unique impact on the world and people around us. You can polish the jewel which is you, or let it get covered in the dust of neglect. You can chose to align yourself with purpose, or just wander through the world aimlessly.

If you realize and respond to your purpose, you are responding with your whole body. That may sound strange, but when you realize that whatever thoughts your brain processes cause signals to be created which permeate your entire body, it makes sense. You were created as a whole body. Your body is listening.

Aliens are listening
When you think of your body, you think of all the cells that grew from a single cell and make up your body. You probably don’t consider that you have many cells and fungi that are foreign to your body originally, but now total over 100 trillion microorganisms. This is your microbiota, or gut flora. Not only are your body’s cells listening to all the signals emanating from your brain, but the aliens are listening as well.

Your microbiota changes with your diet. Since the food you ingest is their food as well, it is no surprise that the specific types of microorganisms in your body will change with diet. If you ingest more sugar, sugar-loving bacteria and fungi will grow rapidly. If your foods are high in fiber, bacteria that feed on the fiber will proliferate. What you feed, you get more of. Since the microorganisms are constantly in competition, and because they have a short lifespan, what you don’t feed will significantly die off. Also the acidity of foods influences the overall microbiota population, as some species prefer higher acidity than others.

Also, your gut changes its environment based upon your thoughts. When you are under stress, the “fight or flight” syndrome kicks in, shutting down digestion in order to shift energy to high performance physical exertion — this immediately changes the environment for your gut flora, and some species handle this better than others. Unfortunately the preferred bacteria are the ones that don’t do so well in the stress environment. As the digestive process slows when your body pauses digestion, toxins build up in the gut that don’t favor the good bacteria.

Another regulator of microbiota species is the immune system. When the microbiota are giving off toxins, as bad bacteria especially will do, the attack cells of your immune system will attempt to deal with them, causing inflammation in the process. This process attempts to limit the population of the bad bacteria and the damage they cause, but if your immune system is weak or overwhelmed, the bad bacteria are not well regulated, allowing them to grow unchecked.

All of these are physical effects where your brain signals your body in ways that shift the physical environment in which the microbiota live, thereby changing the population levels of the various microorganisms. But are the microorganisms more directly affected by your brain? There is growing evidence that suggests that. One study of 1463 adults recruited from the Kangbuk Samsung Health study in Korea, published in Brain, Behavior, and Immunity, divided the study participants into two groups: those with high neuroticism (traumatized/stressed), and those with high conscientiousness (more ordered and in command of life). High neuroticism and low conscientiousness groups were correlated with high abundance of Gammaproteobacteria and Proteobacteria, either of which in high concentrations or in the wrong portion of the gut are harmful to health. (1) Also, the high conscientiousness group also showed increased abundance of some universal butyrate-producing bacteria, including Lachnospiraceae — butyrate is a key energy source for cells that line the colon, and important for good gut function and digestion. These bacteria feed on fiber and are vital to fiber management and release of nutrients. This study finds that the state of mind is directly impacting which species thrive and which diminish. Somehow the ongoing signals that the gut receives is directly impacting the population of the microbiota.

What’s the purpose?
Diversity in gut flora is important, because different microorganisms are needed in various portions of the digestion process, and different species are required to break down different types of foods. Most foods contain some levels of fat, carbohydrate, and protein in different proportions. High diversity in microbiota is generally a good sign of a healthy gut flora. When foods are ingested in their raw state, so that the bacteria they contain is not heated and destroyed, they add to the diversity of your gut flora. In fact, your gut flora all came from the outside, either from your mother, or from foods that you ate.

Somehow, your purpose in life is affecting your gut flora diversity and prevalence of certain bacteria. Just having bacteria species introduced to your gut means little if they are not then supported and fed. Statistical studies such as one published in Psychosomatic Medicine show that not only does physical feeding matter, but signaling from your brain affects their population density as well. In this study, researchers conducted a mind/body study in which participants were assessed as to their psychological well being as rated by their sense of purpose in life. This study found that, “higher purpose levels were significantly associated with lower abundance of species previously linked with poorer health outcomes, notably Blautia hydrogenotrophica and Eubacterium ventriosum.” (2) The study showed these results without changes in metabolic pathways or other physical reasons for the shifts in population. Somehow purpose in the participant was trickling down to the alien gut microorganisms themselves.

So simple…
Sometimes a lot of research just boils down to simple concepts. Purpose in life causes signals to be sent from your brain that greatly impact your health. Not only do those signals affect every cell of your body, but also cells that technically aren’t even part of your body but are residing in your body. If good, they are partners in your health and well being, and if bad, they are antagonists. Your body is one being, and even your freeloaders are acting in concert with you. Attempting to separate body functions, instead of considering your whole body, can be hazardous to your health.

You have a purpose in life. Whether you discover it and pursue it is another matter. If you haven’t discovered yours as yet, the place to start is first finding the truth. Building a purpose on false premises will result in a collapsing foundation. You were put here on this earth intentionally. Once you know that and your whole worldview interprets your life as being intentional, then you consider what your skills, talents, and gifts can offer the world. But most importantly, your creator reveals to you your next steps. Ask and listen. Then step out, because knowledge without action goes nowhere. Your whole body will reap the benefits of your purpose-driven life.

Dr. Nemec’s Review

What our research at Revolution New Medicine has shown over the last 40 years is that the mind and heart send messages to the brain, and the brain sends the messages to the hundred trillion cells in the body, which control all the cells’ health and life.

What the study shows is that the brain also sends the messages to the microflora and gut bacteria that are living inside your intestinal tract, even though these foreigners are aliens because they are not your cells. Nevertheless, they control your health quite a bit by what byproducts they secrete.

The take-home message is twofold: first, if you’re stressed it grows bad bacteria which negatively impact your health, whereas if you are conscientious and focused it positively impacts your health by growing beneficial bacteria in your intestinal tract.

Also, more importantly, when you have a purpose in life, it grows the most beneficial bacteria of all in your gut — and, if you have no purpose in life you grow negative or health-robbing bacteria in your intestinal tract.

The brain affects the body tremendously — in fact, it’s the greatest influencer of every cell of your body and all the other cells that live in your body. Let’s state that again: your brain send signals to the hundred trillion cell community called “you”, and also to the 10 times 100 trillion cell community outside of you that lives in your gut. This is extremely important to understand: the brain controls your health more than any other organ, gland or tissue. More than what you eat, what you drink, what you breathe: all of those are very important but the brain rules all.

From top to bottom
When your brain communicates to all the cells of your body and those living in your body, it affects your total health at the second highest level. We will call this top-down communication.

There is another communication that is also important — not as important as the top-down communication, but next in line. This is the bottom-up communication. This is from the cells of the body back up to the brain, back up to the mind. All school teachers know this: ask them, “What are the worst days of the year?” They will answer that they are the day after Halloween and the day after Easter, because kids eat a lot of sugar and it affects their minds and emotions greatly. And as this study has shown, what you eat directly feeds either good bacteria or bad bacteria and fungi, which either positively or negatively impact your total health.

We said the top-down communication was the second highest impact of your entire health. So what’s the first and most important?

Heart driven life
Rick Warren wrote a book called The Purpose Driven Life, which has sold over 50 million copies. This just shows you how interested people are in purpose. The big questions are:

  • What is your purpose?
  • Is there one overlying purpose or are there many purposes?
  • How do you find your purpose?

Purpose
The Oxford Dictionary definition of purpose is: “the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists.” The base word comes from “propose” which is defined as: “put forward (an idea or plan) for consideration or discussion by others.” It also means to make an offer to marry someone. So purpose basically means why you are here. What is the reason for you being here, in existing in this time and place?

The right and wrong purpose
How many controllers of the brain are there? Two
What are they? The mind and the heart
Which one talks the most? The mind
Which one talks the strongest? The heart

So essentially, you can have two purposes: one that is mind driven, and the other that is heart or spirit driven.

The mind of self
The predominant thoughts of the mind are of self: self preservation, self comfort, self survival, self promotion. It’s all about me: what I want to do in the world, what I can do in the world, how I can master the world.

The heart of Love
Your spirit is your heart. Your spirit speaks to your heart which in turn speaks to your brain, which then speaks to the hundred trillion cells in your body — including the 10 times that amount of cells that live in your body in your intestinal tract. So what’s the difference between the mind of self and the heart or spirit?

The difference is Love
The mind loves its achievements, its power, its position, its ability. We could say the mind loves itself, takes care of itself, put self first and foremost. The heart on the other hand is where true Love comes through. This is not the love of the mind that has hate connected to it. This Love is completely different. It’s unconditional. This Love needs nothing from people, from self, from the world because this Love has everything it needs within itself. It is complete within itself. This is not an emotion, not a feeling, not something that can change or be lost. This Love is a person who happens to be your Father in heaven who created you and sustains you. You may not know Him, but He knows every hair on your head, every cell in your body, and He has never taken His eyes off you: since the day He created you He has been smiling.

What is purpose? It is a proposal.
God, your Father, sent God His Son to make a covenant marriage proposal to you so that you could come home — back into the Family that you originally came from but lost your way home.

Your purpose…
…Is to say “I do” To live your life in your true identity, as a son or daughter of your Father in heaven, always being about Family business

Not self will but your will be done Father, on earth as it is in heaven.
