Ever had your car recalled? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has recorded that 390 million cars were recalled for safety issues since 1966. These recalls, though a nuisance, are meant to protect us from defects which could cause failure and potential automotive accidents.

Although cars are engineered to minimize defects, some still get through. If a defect is engineered in, and mass production follows the same engineered specifications, it can be assumed that all cars of that make, model, and year have that defect built in. The recall gives us the opportunity to have the defect fixed at no cost.

Don’t blame the car
Which causes more car accidents — defects or driver error? The NHTSA reports a little over 10% are caused by a car defect. Twice that — 21% — are caused by hazardous weather conditions. Even those statistics are a bit misleading, because a sharp driver will take better precautions in bad weather and may be able to avoid an accident even when the car fails on the road. By far, driver error is the cause of most accidents.

Car manufacturing has many checks and balances to prevent dangerous defects. The recall process adds another cross check. Defects rarely impact safety. When there are defects, they usually appear early in the life of the car because the defective part acts up fairly quickly. Recalls for older cars are rare. Cars fail mostly due to wear and tear, and accidents are mostly due to human error. From the car’s viewpoint, failure occurs almost totally because of external influences. It’s not the car’s fault.

We aren’t that different from cars. We start out life with certain engineering in place, which is our unique genetic code. That engineering is the framework for our development. Occasionally someone is born with a birth defect, and it may even take a few years before that defect is fully obvious. But these are rare. Generally our genetics are quite capable of providing us with good, full lives. What happens as we grow and age is increasingly due to the environments our bodies are placed in over time.

Unlike cars, our bodies are constantly adapting. As they receive environmental challenges, they adjust. Those adjustments may be good or bad. Our bodies don’t judge, they just react. It’s important that we provide them with the best environments that we can, so the adjustments are good.

Don’t blame the genes
If you think you’ve received “bad” genes, you are likely overestimating the impact of your original genetic code. Especially when older, you are much more the accumulation of epigenetics than genetics; that is, your environment has basically shaped you. Conversely, if you exercise, have a great diet, get a full night’s sleep, hydrate, and especially have generally good thoughts, you probably are in good shape regardless of your genetics. If you are overweight, for instance, certain genetic traits might make that more of a challenge, but if you were put into an environment where food was very scarce, you would lose weight regardless of your genes.

This is a critical point when you want to avoid disease. Especially in these modern times, disease is running rampant. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), over half of adults currently have at least one major chronic disease. They list diseases such as cancer, arthritis, heart/cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hepatitis, or failing kidneys. These cannot be blamed on genetics. If we compare car accidents to health, most of these diseases are not due to manufacturing defects, but are due to environment.

Cancer — the king of chronic diseases
Let’s consider the research. It has long been assumed that cancer, which qualifies as a chronic disease, is due to genetic defects. Those defects may not have been in the original design — they might be due to radiation or other environmental factors damaging the gene — but genetic defects were generally thought to be the reason cancer developed. That view is changing. More research is showing that environmental factors can kick off cancer regardless of base genetics. It’s no mistake that the toxicity of our food supply, air, water, and even the toxicity of our news environment, social media, and entertainment has proliferated right along with cancer.

One research study, published in Nature, attempts to demonstrate how environmental impacts can kick off cancer regardless of DNA. Researchers from the Institute of Human Genetics, CNRS, University of Montpellier, Montpellier, France studied simple, short-lived animals to determine if environmental factors alone could invoke cancer, regardless of genetics. They were able to cause on-demand inhibition of the production of certain proteins which are called Polycomb group (PcG) proteins that repress certain genetic expression. They were effectively controlling the epigenetic response through switching off these proteins, then restoring them later. What they found was that shutting down PcG production initiated the development of cancer which then persisted after they restored the PcG levels. They found 100% initiation of cancer with their experiment across all genetic lines. They acknowledge that the animal genetics were much simpler than humans, but the study still shows that environmental changes are sufficient to cause cancer all by themselves.

This study also shows that the environment can change transcription factors of genes, meaning that the next generation of genes are acting differently (called “epigenetics”) because of the changed transcriptions. Different codes within the genes were being expressed. Once the epigenetic changes occurred and cancer developed, simply switching back to the previous environment was insufficient to stop the cancer. As they stated, “transient depletion of PRC1 components is sufficient to switch cells into a neoplastic state that is maintained even after normal PcG protein concentrations are re-established.” The proverbial barn door had been left open, and closing it doesn’t bring back the horses.

That doesn’t mean, however, that cancer can’t be reversed. First, cancer progresses in steps — it takes many steps downward before a cascade of epigenetic changes can produce cancer. Second, each of those steps are individually reversible. As published in a review of studies published in Experimental & Molecular Medicine, “several studies have reported that cancer cells can be reversed to be normal cells under certain circumstances.” This can be accomplished by boosting certain tumor suppression proteins, or causing the cells to revert to a less malignant epigenetic response, even if not all the way back to the original phenotype, which refers to the observable characteristics or the epigenetic expression of the cells.

Published in Cancer Cell, researchers from the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California at Berkeley, explain that cancer cells are “genetically unstable, undergo multiple genetic and epigenetic changes, and continuously evoke in response to selective pressures.” Further, “the changes that occur in cancer cells are the result of multiple alterations in cellular signaling machinery.” Signaling is the key. That’s because, to a cell, signals and the cellular environment are basically the same. Subtract direct environmental factors such as nutrition, oxygen, toxicity, and hydration: the cell basically sees its environment as signals. Epigenetics respond mostly to signals. Cells change, in positive or negative ways, due to signals. So the key to preventing or reverting cancer also lies in signaling.

Your primary signaler is your brain
Improving your physical environment through diet, hydration, exercise, avoiding toxicity, and getting proper sleep are very important to avoiding all chronic disease, but the greatest single factor is what your brain is signaling to the rest of your body

You are the driver of the car. The car is not the driver of you.

Dr. Nemec’s Review

The Nature article was very clear, straightforward, cut and dry. They were able to cause on-demand inhibition of the production of certain proteins that repress certain genetic expression. What they found was that shutting down PcG production initiated the development of cancer which then persisted after they restored the PcG levels. They found 100% initiation of cancer with their experiment across all genetic lines.

What does this mean?
They put a substance in the cell that shut down tumor suppression, and by doing this produced cancer 100% of the time. So it wasn’t the gene itself that mutated to produce cancer. It was something in the environment that turned off the tumor suppression ability that promoted the cancer 100% of the time. This very easily demonstrates it’s not bad genes that cause problems, but the environment you placed the genes in that causes the problems.

Study number two (Experimental & Molecular Medicine) shows that studies have reported that cancer cells can be reversed to be normal cells “under certain circumstances.” This can be accomplished by boosting certain tumor suppression proteins, or causing the cells to revert to a less malignant epigenetic response, even all the way back to the original phenotype. In the study, it was obvious once cancer cells are present, if you change the environment (in this case by boosting certain tumor suppressor proteins) it causes cancer production to shut OFF.

So the Nature study showed you can turn cancer cell formation ON 100% of the time with the right environment. And this study showed you can turn it OFF by increasing certain tumor suppressor proteins.

Turn on turn off
It’s just like a light switch that can be turned on by the environment and turned off by the environment: simple as that.

But the question is: Who is the one that turns on and off the light switch? Who is the one that is controlling the environment? Who is the one who is driving the car?

Professional drivers
Have you ever seen Hollywood stunt drivers and the amazing things they can do with a car? They can manipulate a car in the most adverse environments. They can keep the car running and on course where almost 100% of everyone else would’ve been in an accident. The same holds true with race car drivers: they are trained at the highest level for instantaneous reflexes and they adapt to every possible variable almost instantaneously. This is why they can drive cars over 200 miles an hour in even the most adverse circumstances. Where almost 100% of normal drivers would’ve been in an accident, these drivers avoid accidents because of their skill level.

What is skill?
It’s training. It’s developing. It’s becoming very good at certain duties or tasks. So in the analogy, the gene and genetic code is the car and the environment is the driver of the car. How do most Americans drive their cars in this analogy? Like an extremely elderly American who can’t see very well, can’t hear very well, and cognitively and neurologically has very poor reflexes. If this is the person driving the car, there is going to be an accident eventually — it’s just a matter of time. This is the way standard Americans drive their genes.

There is another way
What if you mastered your driving skill to the level of a professional stunt driver or race car driver? If you developed your reflexes and your awareness to that level, you could prevent accidents almost 100% of the time because of these skills. You developed them — you were not born with them. This is what we’ve been teaching at Revolution New Medicine for over 40 years. We call it the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health. If you master these seven steps — if you master theses seven skills — you will control your environment. This is how you prevent disease; this is how you revert disease back to normal health. You are the one that turned on the disease and you are the one that can turn it off, just like a light switch, but you must learn the skills to be able to turn off the switch. We are the teacher. You are the student.

How long does it take to master a skill?
When researchers studied top-level concert piano players, Olympic athletes, and other people who have mastered their fields, the estimate was approximately 10,000 hours.

That’s six hours a day. Six days a week. 50 weeks a year.

Do the math: 6X6X50 = 1800 hours. At this rate, it would take 5 1/2 years. At three hours a day it would take 11 years.

What’s the problem?
To reword the question: who and what is the problem? You’re the driver of the car, and how you are driving the car is the problem.

It’s time to go to professional driving school. It’s time to master the Seven Basic Steps to Total Health.

Remember, you must change the environment or the environment will change you. If you keep doing what you’ve always done, you’re going to keep getting what standard Americans have always received, and that is an environment that produces disease. It is because of their upbringing, because of their diets, their lifestyles, their ways of life, but all this can be changed. You just need to develop new skills and devote yourself to those skills.

You can change any environment as long as you put more energy in to change that environment than the energy that developed the present environment. No disease is irreversible unless you wait too long.

Most people when they get diagnosed with a disease go to the doctor and take the medication the doctor gives them, and they do nothing about their environment. They just put a chemical in their body, hoping it will be enough to reverse their disease.

Environment = signals
The body responds to signals, so the environment is perceived by the brain and the nervous system, turned into neurotransmitter and hormonal signals, and this turns on and off cellular function. But the key here is the brain receives messages from the mind — so what’s in the mind is sent to the brain and the brain translates the messages through signals that are sent to the hundred trillion cells in the body. So the mind-brain connection controls all the turning on and turning off of the cellular functions.

Mind-Brain Connection
Your life is run 95% subconsciously by stored subconscious programs.

With professional drivers, concert pianists, and Olympic athletes — once their skill is perfected it’s stored as a subconscious program on the hard drive of their brains so it becomes the new normal.

So if you want to change the environmental signals to your cells, it starts in the brain where all the signals originate. So to reverse or prevent disease, you must train to master your environment, and to train you need a teacher, a coach, a master driver to show you the way.

It’s never too late to take driving lessons
We’ve had people start on our programs that are in their 90s because they were starting to slow down and they didn’t like it.

You get to choose your destiny — otherwise the environment that you’ve made unknowingly will control your destiny. Do not be a victim of poor driving skill: now is the time to go to school to develop the skills that you will require to thrive at 105.

You master any skill one step at a time, one hour at a time. Isn’t it time to begin?
