The latest presidential election cycle was one of the most, if not the most stressful elections in American history. Each side pronounced doomsday warnings of what would happen if the opposing candidate were to gain the presidency. These warnings were amplified by news and social media to a fevered pitch. Many Americans lost hours of sleep for weeks or even months worrying over what would happen if the election went over to the opponent on the other side of the aisle. This was happening despite the fact that both candidates for presidency were known commodities: Donald Trump had been President for four years already, and Kamala Harris was the current Vice President. Even so, each was able to paint the other as a wildly dangerous candidate who would destroy the country and democracy itself.
The election just ended, and the news rhetoric has already changed from predicting disaster to the possibility of a hopeful future. Also many news media outlets are admitting how badly they “misread” the American public, because the election went quite differently than many had predicted and hyped. The most mainstream news channels are essentially admitting, without saying so directly, that they had just put their viewers through a torrent of worry and fear with nothing to show for it.
Sadly, news media thrives on driving perception. When they stir up emotion, they also addict their audience to come back for more. They declare themselves to be oracles, heralds of the future, and “fact checkers”, when they are more obsessed with grabbing viewers. The candidates themselves acted as you would expect in painting the other side as horrible and not worth a vote, because they are in the business of getting elected at the expense of the other side. But news media is not in that business. Even when a news outlet strongly takes a side, they are doing so to feed the addiction of their segment of the viewing or listening audience. That’s how they stay in business — at your expense. Next time you listen to or read your preferred news outlet, check carefully for any inflammatory terms that you hear that are not basic facts. You’ll be amazed at how much of the newscast is telling you how you should think and why you should be afraid or angry, rather than basic facts. If you compare that newscast with one from the other side of the political aisle, you will notice something else: each side is carefully leaving out facts that don’t fit the particular narrative they are trying to sell to you. The only way to get fully informed is to check out both left and right media (there is no center media left, sadly), so you can get both sides of a story. You will realize just how much the media is trying to inflame you, rather than inform you.
It’s all about perception. When you are told something, perhaps over and over again, even if you consciously don’t accept it, your subconscious mind has still heard it. Your perception shifts, and if that is in a negative direction, fear and worry may creep in. Now what happens? You react mentally and physically to try to deal with those fears. But can you deal with them, or will they just fester? Chances are you can’t change a single thing that you learn about from the news.
Give yourself a break
What would happen to your car if you ride day after day with your foot partially depressing the brake? For one, you would wear down the brakes faster. Worse, you would consistently strain the engine so that it has to continually work harder just to get down the road. You would not only waste fuel; you would cause the engine to fail sooner. You would gain absolutely nothing beyond a tired foot. When you worry, when you are fearful, or whenever you are experiencing ongoing mental stress, you are tearing yourself down with nothing good to show for it.
Is the source of your stress coming from news or social media, or your own personal struggles? Your body doesn’t know or care — it is simply stressed. Either way, your mind is telling your brain that you are not at peace and something needs to change, and your brain then signals that to your whole body. But your brain is part of your body, so it is also signaling itself. That means it is also tearing itself down. We see this in brain fog, memory loss, and dementia — especially at older age when brain rebuilding slows.
This was examined in a research study published in Psychosomatic Medicine. They studied three biomarkers of cognitive decline in the study participants: total tau (t-tau), glial fibrillary acid protein (GFAP), and neurofilament light chain (NfL). They determined that the association between NfL and cognitive decline was made worse as stress levels increased. In other words, the NfL was more damaging as stress rose, and thus stress was directly responsible for increased brain damage. “The interaction of stress, NfL concentration, and time was statistically significant on global cognition and on episodic memory.”
Why is chronic stress so damaging over time? Stress is inflammatory. Stress talks to the immune system — it’s one of the ways that the body is preparing for the emergency that stress represents. Stress chemicals are generally inflammatory. In an emergency, it makes sense to forfeit the future for high performance now. Trouble is, there is no emergency, but the chronic stress maintains a state of emergency day after day. This is a cascade effect, leading to more damage which leads to more inflammation.
What can be, unburdened by what has been
The brain is “plastic”, meaning that it adapts well and constantly to what it perceives. If reality is different than perception, the brain has no way of knowing that. If you determine that something you have been perceiving as true is really false, then you have changed your perception with that realization, and your brain will respond accordingly. If you cross the street without seeing an oncoming car, your perception is that it is safe to proceed. Reality will soon change your perception, but until it does, nothing has changed for you. But since your brain is plastic, a change in perception means your brain will adapt to it as though it were reality. That means that if you are mentally stressed, a positive change in your perception can wipe away the stress, and your plastic brain will respond by working better.
That’s great news, but brain damage is slow to repair, so you don’t want to delay. Chronic stress tends to shrink the prefrontal cortex (memory and learning), and may even cause the amygdala (emotions) to expand. This only makes the problem worse, driving the stress reaction into a more primal and emotional level. Stress patterns tend to get “stuck” the longer that they persist. In a review article published in Chronic Stress (Thousand Oaks), researchers explain how short term adaptability can become a long term problem through neuronal replacement dendritic remodeling and synapse turnover if the stress persists. The researchers also differentiate between “good stress”, which they define as rising to a challenge and basking in the outcome, versus “toxic stress”, which may be from early life events or new events in which the individual has little control and support.
Make your brain great again
Stress is a killer. It’s slow, but best not be underestimated. It can eat away like rust on a car. Much of it is likely subconscious, because most of your thoughts are subconscious. Dealing with stress is vital, and subconscious stress needs to be found before it can be treated, which you probably cannot do consciously. The antidote to stress is perception change. Perception must be aligned with truth, or else it won’t stand the test of time. There is no need to build your life on pretty lies, because the truth is much better than you can even imagine.
Your perception is greatly influence by what you see and hear. Has the news media that caused you so much anxiety proven to be trustworthy? Is it serving you well? Seriously, what is its track record? Is it even worth your time? Perhaps it is merely an untruthful source of stress for you. If so, a good place to start would be to reject it. Focus instead on truth: “…whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”

Perception, perception perception it’s all about perception.
The dictionary definition is: the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses. It is derived from the Latin word meaning “to seize or to understand.” Through this definition, it is clear to see where the problem is. It is the senses: what you hear, what you see isn’t necessarily the truth.
Fact vs. Truth
Let’s go back to the dictionary for the definition of fact: “something that has actual existence, an actual occurrence, a piece of information.” It comes from the Latin word meaning “to do, to perform.”
Now we can see where the problem is. If perception is based on the senses, then the senses can be deceived by what has actual existence and actual occurrence. This is in the mind of the beholder. This is never more evident than in a courtroom with witnesses, where many times if you take 10 witnesses at the scene of a crime they will all have different perceptions and they will tell different stories about what actually occurred. This is because they all have different perceptions that are based on their experiences in life.
Blue glasses versus red glasses
If I put on a pair of blue glasses with blue lenses, then the whole world looks blue to me. If I take off the blue glasses and now put on the red glasses, the whole world looks red to me. The glasses are my perception.
The question is, who gave you the glasses in the first place?
Once upon a Time
In this story about you when you entered the world in your parents arms, you were given glasses — where did the glasses come from? That’s right — from your parents. You were raised to see the world as they see the world, right or wrong. That’s the glasses you were given and unfortunately these glasses were tinted with some color. It wasn’t your parents fault. They were given the same glasses when they were born — so on and so on and so on.
What actually are the glasses?
Your perceptions are based on early life observations during ages 0 to 6. Your consciousness has not fully developed until age 6, so everything in this early childhood goes in as fact, as an absolute. We call it a program that’s written on the subconscious mind, actually written in neural tissue. So whether you like it or not, you are a product of your early environment and the perceptions of that environment: if you were given red glasses, you have always seen the world as red and you always will unless there’s a radical shift in your perception.
Change your perception and you change your life
How do you change your perception? You have to find the non-truths that are stored on the hard drive of your brain written in your subconscious programming and you must release them in a sense. You must detoxify yourself from them. Then, most importantly, you must rewrite a new program on your subconscious mind, one that is not based on fact, but instead on truth. Then you must verify with imaging that your brain and neural tissue have received the new perception. It has received the truth and it’s written into the neural tissue.
Truth instead of facts? So-called facts are often disputed. Facts are changeable, depending on scientific discoveries; i.e, the world used to be thought of as flat. That was the fact of the day, now we know the fact has changed — the Earth is round. The truth is the same yesterday, today, and forever. It does not change with scientific discovery.
Clear glasses
You will know the Truth and the Truth will set you free. The only perception that brings forth life, health and healing is a perception based on Truth; not fact, not opinion, not general consensus, but the Truth, and only the Truth.

The Truth is a person who seeks an intimate relationship with you. This person is standing at the door of your heart, knocking on the door, constantly waiting for you to invite Him in.
