What music do you enjoy? What about that music do you particularly like — the beat, melody, vocal, instrumentation? You probably would say that you like them all, and the way they go together to make music. What music can you listen to over and over again and still not be bored with? That’s a tougher question, but if you are like most of us, you’d pick very rich and detailed music, something that has lots of variety and complexity within the music.

Even though variety within music keeps it engaging, there is also regularity to it — this is the rhythm, the regularity that anchors the music. You may tap your foot or dance with it, following the regular pattern. This regularity is the simplest part of the music, yet without it the music is wandering and chaotic. The rhythm is superimposed on the piece, weaving the various elements together.

It’s all in your head
You probably even “listen” to music playing inside your head. Your brain plays songs you’ve heard recently, or sometimes digs up songs from long ago. They may play unintentionally, and you may wonder why that particular song is playing now. Some jingle from an advertisement gets “stuck in your head’ and just keeps playing even when you don’t want it to.

There is real “music” playing in your head all the time. Your brainwaves bear a lot of similarities to music: they have a regular rhythm superimposed on a number of higher frequency waves which come from the “instruments” of your senses, memory, involuntary system, and your thoughts. Together, these waves form a symphony more complex than any piece of music. Scientists keep trying to understand this music-like language of the brain, and they are finding that they have to consider the entire symphony to make sense out of brain function. Brainwaves aren’t just a byproduct of brain function. They are integral to its function, and the “music of the spheres” in this case could be called the music of the hemispheres, or even the music of the neurons.

Gleanings from radio signals
The first form of radio communication that people devised was called amplitude modulation (AM). The idea was to take a specific single “carrier” frequency waveform and superimpose onto it the information of voices, music, or other sounds which were at a much lower frequency. This is amplitude modulation, where the voice or music lower frequency information limits or governs the amplitude, or height of the high frequency wave.

The difference of frequency between the information wave and the carrier wave is important, because only a much higher frequency can carry the information of lower frequencies. Trying to modulate or balance too low of a frequency would just break up and distort the carrier. The modulation regulates the carrier and gives it meaning. You could say that modulation governs the high frequency carrier with the information wave, if the frequency difference is sufficient to avoid distorting the carrier.

At first look, brainwaves appear to be just a number of waveforms radiating from brain cells. But there are very definite patterns to them, much like radio signals where the lower frequencies modulate or govern the higher. In the brain, we can see multiple radio-like signals from various portions of the brain. While radio signal modulation only applies to one radio signal at a time, the brain may be modulating several signals simultaneously, making a “super-orchestra.”

What’s your perception?
Published in Trends in Neurosciences, researchers at the German Primate Center in Göttingen, Germany and the University of Melbourne, Australia recognized the potential complexity of brainwave interaction. In particular, they wanted to study how our attention to what we perceive changes at times: sometimes we pay close attention to what our senses are telling us, and at other times we hardly notice, even though those senses are sending information at the same rate at all times. Something is evidently regulating our perception. Through both human and primate animal studies, they learned that waveforms in the 4 to 8 hertz range appeared to be modulating or balancing brainwaves of ten times higher frequencies in the gamma range (40 to 80 hertz). This phase-amplitute coupling (PAC) of the higher frequency sensory data with the rhythms of the low frequencies shifted perception levels dynamically, muting perception during periods of inattention or distraction, but enhancing perception when concentration and focus was high. The attention level of a person changed the modulating waveform and thus regulated the strength of the sensory signals, strengthening or muting what was received.

This study highlights how the various brainwaves work together and have their own roles to play. They must be in balance for the brain to do its job well. Stress changes the brainwaves. How? Of the five brain wave types — Alpha, Beta, Delta, Gamma, and Theta — Alpha waves decrease, Beta increases, and normal Delta and Theta waves may be suppressed. Delta is the super low frequency wave (.5 to 4 hertz) produced in sleep. Theta waves are the 4 to 8 hertz waves which the study found modulates the Gamma waves, which are above 35 hertz and normally associated with concentration. The stressed brain is thus over-producing Beta waves and Gamma waves (high attention/high alert, hyperactive thought), which is meant for periods requiring high attention and focus on potential threats or enemies, and underproducing waves which would regulate concentration and perception. The stressed brain is overactive, over-alert, trying to solve the emergency, and trying to perceive the imaginary enemy posing a threat. Comparing brainwaves to a symphony, the music of the stressed brain would be hyperactive, poorly coordinated, non-harmonious, violent, even screeching.

Your brain is much more complex than all the individual waveforms it produces. It can simultaneously process organ control, perception, playing back tapes from your past, playing music, and thought. This is one amazingly complex instrument! It’s more complex than anything humans have built, whether that be a delicate timepiece, space vehicle, or supercomputer. When it gets out of balance, that unbalance is itself quite complex. And since your brain is the prime regulator of your entire body, if it is out of balance, your whole body suffers.

Unbalanced, stress, then disease
What shows up when chronic stress occurs? Inflammation. Published in Frontiers in Human Neuroscience, researchers at the Laboratory of Stress Medicine Faculty of Psychology and Mental Health, Shanghai, China reviewed various pathways through which stress leads to inflammation. They list altered hormonal responses, increased cytokine activation, neurotransmitter and neurochemical alterations, and elevated blood pressure as primary stress responses, as well as feedback from the inflammatory responses which causes more mental stress. But the common thread is that the brain is signaling the body to produce inflammation. They state that stress is the common risk factor for 75% – 90% of diseases, including cancer.

I got the rhythm in me
Are brainwaves simply indicators of the stress happening within the brain, or are they instrumental is in producing the stress reaction? Since brainwaves are part of the brain’s internal communication system, since they interact with each other to influence brain function, and since they can reach beyond just the brain to the rest of the body, they are both indicators of and accomplices in stress. Stress will throw them out of balance, and out of balance brainwaves will invoke stress. A perfectly spinning top stays completely upright, but when it is slightly unbalanced, it wobbles, which then makes it go out of balance even faster, eventually falling over. For your health, you need to maintain a low stress, balanced brainwave pattern to achieve high health. Other health-promoting factors are very important, but without mental balance, you will wobble like a top and make vital health impossible.

It’s all in the rhythm.

Dr. Nemec’s Review

Balance is the key in life. Balance in the brain brings balance in the body. And as we see in these studies, balance in the brain is a very complex symphony of interacting frequencies that must be modulated or balanced and adjusted for the best outcome for the whole being. It’s really important to understand in the Germany and Australia study, when you put two brain wave frequencies together they balance each other so if you connect a high frequency gamma wave with a lower frequency theta wave this brings balance to the brain and into the body. So these entangled dual frequencies are vital to the best response of the whole organism. You can almost look at it as a marriage: the two work better together as one. So to improve perception, to be the best you can be each moment, fully engaged in the moment you must have this these brain waves entangled together to have the proper response — you must have a marriage of the brain waves to have the optimal outcome.

In the second study from China the take-home message is the brain is perceiving the stress and signaling the cells of the body to produce inflammation in reaction to the stress. This inflammation, if it becomes chronic, is the root of all disease, and as the study showed, 75 to 90% of all disease including cancer comes from these brainwave signals. This is a paradigm shifting-changing statement. Let me say it again: 90% of all disease in the body and the mind is coming from brainwave signals produced in your brain. This is why we formulated our Revolution New Medicine® protocol with the sole purpose to address the subconscious and conscious stress brainwave frequencies that are written on the hard drive of the brain, and these brainwave frequencies control the health and life of the all the cells by the signals they produce. When we balance the brain waves with our Heart Brain Entrainment protocol and confirm this with our 3-D brain imaging, patients release the number one inflamer in the entire body and the number one cause of all disease: they release the subconscious and conscious stored stress signals which sets them free from any more signaling of inflammation. This is the most important aspect of your health and your life. If your brain is out of balance then your body is out of balance, and once your brain is back in balance your body can heal as was designed to.
